Firms urged to encourage employee innovation

By encouraging creativity among their workforces, companies can foster innovation, one expert has declared.

Alex Evans, Orange National Business Awards Editorial Director and Co-Chair, stated managers should bolster employees and the success of their organizations by championing ideas from members of staff.

He noted such approaches have demonstrated excellence within businesses and there has been an increase in collaborations between executives and the workforce, enhancing pride among individuals and boosting customer service or value.

"You get this sense of champions within the business, with people being recognised very quickly by people who probably sit quite far away from them," Mr Evans explained, adding that a growing "culture of innovation" is emerging.

He was commenting on the Orange National Business Awards, which will be held later this year in London and recognize excellence across a variety of criteria.

The finalists have now been announced and the prizes have witnessed a significant rise in the number of nominations for small businesses in 2011.
