What is this standard about?
Tens of thousands of overseas removals are carried out every year without any licensing structure or other means of distinguishing a professional, high quality contractor from a casual “man with a van” operation.
With an increasing emphasis on security and anti-terrorism measures, the purpose of this standard is to offer removal firms an affordable way to benchmark their services and demonstrate their professionalism as an alternative to the costly accreditations offered by other organizations.
Who is this standard for?
- The removals industry
- Those employing removal services
Why should you use this standard?
Developed with industry stakeholders and through public consultation, this standard specifies requirements for an overseas moving service.
It covers:
- Defining the scope of the overseas moving service, obtaining preliminary information and supplying quotations
- Undertaking the overseas moving service
- Monitoring the overseas moving service
It applies to all forms of such service whatever the means of transport and handling or the type of property being moved; and whatever the type of customer, e.g. private, corporate or public sector; domestic, office-based, industrial/manufacturing.
NOTE: It is not applicable to moving services in mainland Europe
