What is BS 8418:2010?
BS 8418 defines the code of good practice for the design, installation, commissioning, operation and remote monitoring of detector-activated closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems. By following these best-practice recommendations, security organizations and owners of CCTV systems can put the right anti-burglar measures in place and get the most from their crime prevention devices. BS 8418 is a complete update of a previous standard and includes the addition of a system design proposal and detector selection criteria, as well as changes to reflect technological advances in the industry.
How does it work?
BS 8418 starts by looking at the design, installation and commissioning of closed-circuit television systems. It includes the setting and unsetting procedures of the CCTV system on protected premises and looks at the owner’s responsibilities and considerations. The standard also covers remote video response centre operations, procedures and documentation, as well as general maintenance and personnel screening.
Who should buy it?
- CCTV system installers and maintenance providers
- Designers of CCTV systems
- Remote video response centres
