How can standards work alongside policies and regulations?

Dr Scott Steedman, BSI’s Director of Standards, announces this one-day international workshop for senior standards professionals, regulators and government representatives.

The event will have senior-level participation from across the standards and government communities, including Rob Steele, ISO Secretary General.

Co-hosted by BSI and ISO, in association with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, UK.

Standards can be a low-cost solution for local, national and international government bodies to deliver and support policies through a flexible, consensus-based approach with a high degree of market acceptance. At this workshop we will be discussing questions such as:

  • How can standards work alongside regulations?
  • Are standards an effective alternative to regulation?
  • How can governments support delivery of their policies through using standards?
  • How can we build and nurture links between standards bodies and governments?
  • Which examples of best practice already exist worldwide?

Who should attend?

  • Senior business leaders
  • National Standards Bodies (Directors of Standards, officials who work with national authorities)
  • National government officials
  • National regulators
  • Regional government representatives, such as European Commission
  • Trade bodies
  • Consumer and other stakeholder groups
  • Those with an interest in policy and regulation and links to standards
