Best practice for the development and operation of biometric systems

Biometric technologies, such as automated face recognition, fingerprint verification and iris scans, are set to play an increasingly important role in a number of sectors. As the use of biometric recognition systems increases, there is a growing need for interoperability and conformance to standards. The emergence of these new technologies has also highlighted some important societal issues regarding privacy and data protection.

Focus on Biometrics will discuss the application of biometric systems across a range of sectors, with a particular emphasis on best practice for the collection of biometric data. Attendees will find out how standards (such as PAS 92 – Code of practice for the use of biometric systems) can be used in the procurement and operation of biometric systems.

Key topics include:

  • Introduction to PAS 92 – Code of practice for the use of biometric systems
  • Data collection: can biometrics be anonymous?
  • Applications of biometric systems in different sectors
  • What testing can be conducted with biometric systems?
