BS 8593 launch event
Code of Practice for the deployment and use of Body Worn Video (BWV)

14 June 2017

Venue: UBM plc, 240 Blackfriars Road, London, SE1 8BF

BS 8593 launch - Body worn video

Along with our security committee for Video Surveillance Systems (VSS), we are pleased to invite you to our BS 8593 launch event.

The launch will feature presentations from two practitioners in the field and briefings from the Surveillance Camera Commissioner's office, The Metropolitan Police and the ICO as well as the Chair of the BSI committee responsible for the development of Video Surveillance Systems (VSS) standards.

The proliferation and use of cameras to capture images and stream video footage continues to develop in both technical capability and its attraction to the market. These images can be shared on social media, make big news via television networks or be used as evidence when an incident occurs.

The use of Body Worn Video (BWV) has many advantages by providing a lone worker user with a sense of protection and a second pair of eyes and ears should something go wrong. However, there are challenges in terms of operational use, technical capability, security of data and the privacy of those being recorded.

BS 8593 aims to support the work of various public and private sector organizations to deliver a common framework on which BWV can be used appropriately and proportionately to ensure there is a balance between safety, security and the privacy of the recorded. The recommendations given enable BWV to be used consistently across multiple applications such as the police and criminal justice system, parking and civil enforcement, lone workers and as a common platform for integration into other technology and use.

We sincerely hope that you can join us on the day to enjoy our speakers and live demonstrations in such a prestigious location.
