Safety of toys

BSI’s safety of toys standards cover specifications, and test methods for use by toy manufacturers, quality controllers and retailers.

Special requirements for toy manufacture and testing ensures they are safe for children to use. The safety, reliability and cost effectiveness of toys requires the products to be of adequate quality. Failing to control toy safety correctly can result, in the worst case scenario, in harm and/or loss of life, and at the least, delays, related costs and contractual issues etc. Look out for the CE mark, Lion mark and/or the age symbol.

BSI publishes standards, guidelines and specifications to help companies meet toy safety requirements. These publications cover a wide range of toy products and safety areas including flammability, electrical, chemicals, mechanical/physical issues and activity toys.
