Construction Products Regulation

Construction Products Regulation (CPR) — are you ready?

The CPR builds upon the CPD and aims to break down technical barriers to trade in construction products within the European Economic Area.

To achieve this, the CPR provides for four main elements:

  • A system of harmonised technical specifications
  • An agreed system of conformity assessment for each product family
  • A framework of notified bodies
  • CE marking of products.

It can take several months to achieve certification and failure to comply means that you will not be able to legally sell your construction products anywhere within the EU, including the UK. In addition, your Company’s Director has a legal obligation to ensure all required products are CE marked.

If you are still unsure about the CPR the EU have prepared some FAQs:

Also the Guidance Note on the CPR has been issued which will help the construction industry understand the new legislation.

The Guidance has been prepared jointly by the Construction Products Association, the British Board of Agrément, British Standards Institution and FBE Management Limited in consultation with the Trading Standards Institute.
