Introducing BS ISO 45001:2018 Occupational health and safety management – requirements with guidance for use

Every year around two million people die worldwide as a result of work-related incidents while many more are left with life-altering health conditions.

In an attempt to reduce these numbers, ISO has produced a new Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) management system standard called ISO 45001.

This standard:

  • Will help organizations of any size provide safe and healthy working conditions that prevent work-related injury and ill-health
  • Will help organizations proactively improve OH&S performance
  • Includes how to develop and implement an OH&S policy and objectives
  • Takes into account the organization’s context and the needs and expectations of workers and others

ISO 45001:2018 replaces OHSAS 18001:2007. ISO 45001 is different from OHSAS 18001 because it:

  • Shares the same High Level Structure as the other key ISO management systems standards making integration straightforward
  • Increases the emphasis on leadership
  • Requires greater worker consultation and involvement
  • Emphasizes that an organization’s OH&S management system should be tailored to that organization’s specific needs and context

Whatever your organization’s size, sector or activity, ISO 45001 will help you safeguard employees and improve OH&S performance.
