Eurocodes 2013

DCLG announce date for Eurocodes references in Approved Document A

In their Sixth Statement of New Regulation, DCLG (Department for Communities and Local Government) have confirmed that in October of this year they will amend Approved Document A to reference the British Standards based on Eurocodes.

The reason for the change was set out in the consultation document that was published in January 2012, that ‘Referencing only the withdrawn British Standards may be seen as putting up barriers to trade as well as presenting an increasing risk that guidance would, over time, not deliver the level of structural safety intended.’

In March 2010 the British Standards that are currently reference in Approved Document A were withdrawn and are no longer being maintained meaning they will become increasingly out- of-date.
