This document specifies a method for the determination of content of magnesium (Mg), aluminium (Al), calcium (Ca), zinc (Zn), chromium (Cr), and titanium (Ti) in polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES).

NOTE

This method specified in this document may be applied in determination of content higher than 0,5 mg/kg of iron (Fe), antimony (Sb), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), etc. in PE and PP. However, there are no precision data on these elements so far. This method specified in this document is not recommended to be applied in the determination of arsenic (As) and mercury (Hg) in PE and PP due to their volatility.

This method is suitable for base polymers of PE, PP, PE/PP copolymer and their blending.
