Tracked Changes. Cold formed welded steel structural hollow sections. Tolerances, dimensions and sectional properties

Status : Current   Published : May 2019

What is a tracked changes standard?

A tracked changes version of a Standard indicates the changes made, during the standards revision process, between the active standard and its previous version. Additions, deletions, and other formatting and/or content revisions are clearly displayed as underlined and strikethrough texts, ensuring all changes made between the two documents are quickly and easily identified.

What is this standard about?

This is the second in the three-part series of European standards dealing with cold formed hollow section structural steel. This part specifies tolerances for welded circular, square, rectangular and elliptical sections.

Who is this standard for?

  • Structural steel manufacturers and fabricators
  • Structural steel stockholders and distributors
  • Structural steel testing and assessment providers
  • Relevant Notified Bodies under the EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR)

Why should you use this standard?

It specifies tolerances for cold formed welded circular, square, rectangular and elliptical structural hollow sections, manufactured in wall thicknesses up to 40mm, in size ranges:

  • Circular: outside diameters up to 2 500 mm
  • Square: outside dimensions up to 500mm x 500mm
  • Rectangular: outside dimensions up to 500mm x 300mm
  • Elliptical: outside dimensions up to 480mm x 240mm

The standard will help users with a very wide range of applications and also with product development and commercial issues.

It was developed as part of a series on hollow sections which also includes:

  • BS EN 10368, Steel structural hollow sections — General (Characteristics, evaluation of conformity and marking)
  • BS EN 10219-1, Cold formed welded steel structural hollow sections - Part 1: Technical delivery conditions
  • BS EN 10219-3, Cold formed welded steel structural hollow sections - Part 3: Technical delivery conditions for mechanical engineering purposes

What’s changed since the last update?

This is a technical revision of the 2006 version, which it replaces. The standard underwent an editorial revision and in addition:

a)       Elliptical hollow sections were added

b)      Annex A concerning the additional tolerances for piling tubes was removed

c)       Subclause 5.2 was added with one option

d)      In Table 3 the length tolerances for exact length were changed

e)    In 7.1 one paragraph was added
