What is a tracked changes standard?

A tracked changes version of a Standard indicates the changes made, during the standards revision process, between the active standard and its previous version. Additions, deletions, and other formatting and/or content revisions are clearly displayed as underlined and strikethrough texts, ensuring all changes made between the two documents are quickly and easily identified.

What is this standard about?

This revised British Standard supplies an up-to-date specification for chain link fences and the gates and gateposts used with them.

Who is this standard for?

  • Manufacturers of chain link fencing systems and components
  • Installers of chain link fencing
  • Specifying authorities and purchasers including utilities, commercial and security specifiers
  • National and local government authorities
  • Trade associations and reference sources
  • General fencing users including: operators, H&S Managers, maintenance personnel

Why should you use this standard?

Specifying authorities have come to rely on this standard because it provides a well-used, proven and consistent framework for the installation and authorisation of safe and suitable structures for chain link fencing. This updated version specifies safe and effective products and operating regimes in line with other relevant standards and legal requirements.

NOTE: BS 1722-1 is also used as a reference document for other standards in the BS 1722 series.

What’s changed since the last update?

The 2019 edition reflects that the technology of producing wire and wire mesh has changed, as have post materials – concrete, timber and galvanised steel. In addition the revision reflects changes to methods of manufacture and construction, installation, commissioning techniques, and safety requirements.
