This standard ensures consistent reporting of marine sensor specifications by manufacturers by defining terms, specifying preferred test methods and requirements for reporting.

This document contains specific requirements for devices known as Conductivity Temperature Depth (CTDs), Sound Velocity Probes, Multi-parameter Sondes and dissolved gas sensors measuring parameters such as conductivity, temperature, pressure, sound velocity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, pH, and chlorophyll in seawater.

It is also generally applicable to all marine instruments.
