What is this standard about?
This is the first in a seven-part series and specifies the common requirements to ensure safe operation of textile machinery.
Who is this standard for?
- Textile machinery designers
- Machinery manufacturers and systems integrators
- Users of textile machines
- Health and safety experts
Why should you use this standard?
ISO 11111-1:2016 gives guidance on the safe operation of machinery plant and related equipment used in the textile industry for the purpose of cleaning, blending, carding, spinning and other processing of fibres (staple and filament) and other materials to form yarn or nonwoven material (including felts).
It looks at the frequently occurring hazards common to different types of textile machinery and also the hazards of certain machine elements covered in the rest of the series of standards, BS EN ISO 11111-2 to BS EN ISO 11111-7.
It also covers equipment for automated operation of the machines and processes in either free-standing or complex installations, such as pneumatic fibre transportation.
It excludes transportation between the interfaces of the machines.
NOTE: ISO 11111-1:2016 is not applicable to machinery intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres or to machines which are manufactured before the dates of publication of the international standards.
What’s changed since the last update?
The standard has been systematically reviewed by technical experts to ensure its continued market relevance. Changes include:
- An updated list of significant hazards
- Revised safety use requirements and risk management guidelines
- Amendments to guidelines on signals and warning devices, accompanying documents and marking
