What is this standard about?
It provides guidance on the design and testing of UK electricity meters, augmenting the requirements of BS EN 62052-31 in terms of product safety.
Who is this standard for?
- Electricity meter manufacturers
- Suppliers
- Operators
- Asset providers
Why should you use this standard?
This revision introduces new safety requirements in line with recent publications and current safety guidelines.
What’s changed since the last update?
New safety requirements are introduced that relate to co-ordination with short circuit protection devices, i.e. the 100A fuse in most UK installations. This revision:
- Amends the section(s) on a meter’s ability to sustain overload and short circuit conditions in line with modern service fusing practice
- Ensures that meter overload and short circuit sustaining requirements align with current building practices
- Ensures the need to meet MOCOPA requirements is recognized when providing sealing for meter terminal covers and communication ports
- Relaxes metrological sealing requirements so that manufacturers can innovate without compromising basic security requirements
- Incorporates further minor amendments and clarifications relating to meter dimensions
