What is this PAS about?
The UK has a vast network of utility and local authority infrastructure buried beneath the ground including water, sewer, gas and electricity networks; telecommunications cables; and local authority infrastructure such as cabling for street and traffic lights and highway drainage.
This PAS provides recommendations for capturing, recording and maintaining information about these assets, as well as the timely sharing of this information in a commercially-sensitive and security-minded way.
Who is this PAS for?
It will be used by organizations that own buried assets, those that require asset records for planning and design purposes, and those that carry out work in the vicinity of buried assets.
Why should you use this PAS?
The quality, accuracy and reliability of current records are variable as there has been a lack of universally adhered-to industry standards in this area. The use of this PAS will:
- Reduce confusion and delays for those needing information to be able to work safely
- Help minimize the delays, costs and risks of asset strikes
- Reduce safety risks to the public
- Reduce risks of environmental damage from asset strikes
