What is BS EN 9300-200 - LOTAR for PDM about?

BS EN 9300 series focuses on long term archiving and retrieval (LOTAR) for digital technical product documentation for aerospace applications. Product data comprises both the content data defining a product and the respective metadata. BS EN 9300 series comprise a series of domain specific standards to deal with long term archiving and retrieval of product management data (PDM).

BS EN 9300-200 provides information for LOTAR for PDM for the relevant documents, structures and processes. PDM closely reflects the local business and data handling processes of each company.

In most modern industrial environments, product data is maintained and managed using PDM systems. In general, these systems:

  • Manage the use of the primary technical data contained, for example, in CAD models and documents
  • Allow organization of primary technical data into structures to represent the relevant products
  • Support definition and maintenance processes for products

Who is BS EN 9300-200 – LOTAR for PDM for?

BS EN 9300-200  on LOTAR of PDM for aerospace is useful for:

  • Aerospace industry
  • The IT industry / the IT divisions at aerospace facilities
  • Personnel involved in implementing / maintaining / executing LOTAR
  • Design teams / design engineers
  • CAD specialists
  • Product data management working groups

Why should you use BS EN 9300-200 – LOTAR for PDM?

Many companies are migrating their design processes from traditional hard-copy drawings and documents to using digital data. New processes are needed to archive digital data and preserve access to it, in compliance with business and regulatory requirements appropriate to this new media. Over these time periods, changes in technology impact the ability to retrieve and use product data. Organizations, which use digital product data, will need strategies and processes that maintain the usability of the data over multiple generations of technology.

BS EN 9300-200 covers long term archiving and retrieval for PDM, which enables the proper retrieval of archived primary technical data when performing queries relative to product structure, relationships, effectivity, status, etc.

Conforming to BS EN 9300-200, the objectives for long term archiving and retrieval for product management data are preserving the links between primary technical data and the associated PDM and providing all relevant properties of primary technical data as contained within the associated PDM. BS EN 9300-200 guidelines facilitate the migration of vital digital data to newer technologies.
