Why should you use this standard? 

BS EN 12165 outlines all the requirements for the right composition and mechanical properties of materials. The standard explains the resistance to dezincification, as well as the dimensions and various tolerances – including form tolerances. It also defines diameter, length and straightness. 

The standard also looks at sampling methods and a variety of tests that should be implemented to ensure these materials conform to the necessary requirements. Some of the test methods include hardness testing and chemical-resistance and corrosion tests.

What’s changed since the last update? 

Significant technical changes include:

  • The addition of three new materials: CuZn35Pb1,5AlAs (CW625N), CuZn33Pb1,5AlAs (CW626N) and CuZn33Pb1AlSiAs (CW725R) due to the market requirements on restriction of lead and modification of the chemical composition for CuZn39Pb1 (CW611N)
  • The introduction of an optional procedure on how to refer to restrictions to the chemical composition imposed by the 4 MS Common Composition List. This covers materials used for products accepted for contact with drinking water
  • Requirements and test methods for resistance of dezincification are modified
