This is Part 3 in a series of five standards dealing with floor and wall tiling. BS 5385-3 provides recommendations for the design, installation and maintenance of ceramic and mosaic tiles.

Why should you use BS 5385-3 - Wall and floor tiling code

BS 5385-3 gives recommendations on the choice of materials, application practices and, where appropriate, on the design of backgrounds and structural bases of ceramic and mosaic tiles. 

BS 5385-3 covers the design, installation and maintenance of such tiling, bedded on concrete, cement and sand and calcium sulfate-based screeds, timber, flooring grade asphalt and existing hard floor finishes in normal conditions.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS 5385-3 has been revised to make sure it meets the needs of the current market and that it aligns with other parts of the standard. Changes include:

  • Amendments to guidelines relating to installation on heated screeds and calcium sulfate screeds
  • Amendment to annex providing information on special conditions such as swimming pools and underfloor heated bases
