What is this standard about?
This is the third in a three part international standard on the Rockwell test for metallic materials. The other two parts are:
- Part 1: Metallic materials. Rockwell hardness test. Test method
- Part 2: Verification and calibration of testing machines and indenters
Who is this standard for?
- Rockwell hardness testing machine and indenter manufacturers
- Users of the Rockwell hardness test
Why should you use this standard?
This part of ISO 6508 specifies a method for the calibration of reference blocks to be used for the indirect and daily verification of Rockwell hardness testing machines as specified in BS EN ISO 6508-2.
NOTE: Attention is drawn to the fact that the use of tungsten carbide composite for ball indenters is considered to be the standard type of Rockwell indenter ball. Steel indenter balls can be used only when complying with BS EN ISO 6508-1, Annex A.
What’s changed since the last update?
This standard was systematically reviewed by technical experts to ensure its continued market relevance. This is a technical revision of the 2005 version which has been withdrawn.
