What is BS 594987:2010?
BS 594987 looks at all the factors that should be taken into account for the transportation of asphalt mixtures. This applies to preparatory site work, as well as laying and compacting asphalt mixes – including the covering of concrete and pavements. Asphalts also need to meet the requirements of BS EN 13108 and PD 6691 from the minute they leave the mixing plant, until they’re placed on the road. BS 594987 also includes the elementary work at the laying site to make sure the substrate is fit to receive the asphalt.
How does it work?
BS 594987 sets the benchmark for the transportation, delivery and discharge of asphalts. It looks at the preparatory works at the laying site, the laying and surfacing, as well as the chipping of hot rolled asphalts. Other topics include texture depth, compaction and opening to traffic.
