BS ISO 30300 - Information and documentation - Management systems for records - Fundamentals and vocabulary

The formation and administration of records are integral to any organization’s activities enabling accountability, risk management and business continuity. They allow organizations to capitalize on the value of their information resources and contribute to the preservation of collective memory; responding to the increasing challenges of the global and digital environment.

BS ISO 30300 specifies the terminology for the Management Systems for Records (MSR) series of standards and the objectives and benefits of successfully implementing an MSR.

It is often overlooked that records management is not purely a technical matter but in fact management responsibility. To help organizations improve their records management, ISO has developed a new family of Management System for Records - the ISO 30300 series.

Implementing a Management System for Records will allow an organization to create a common policy and practice benchmarks across different countries, cultures and jurisdictions; support legal compliance and protection and offer the ability to set and assess performance measures for the use of commercial service providers.

Establish a Common Language

BS ISO 30300 defines and clarifies the provisions and definitions for records management in alignment with ISO 30301:2011. Using simple yet comprehensive terminology, it enables you to take a best practice approach to managing records without the complicated jargon.

The BS ISO 30300 is applicable to any type of organization and will allow you to effectively:

  • Establish, implement, maintain and improve an MSR to support its business
  • Assure itself of conformity with its stated records policy
  • Demonstrate conformity with ISO 30301:2011

Achieve Business Efficiency

Management systems are focused on the achievement of results and the management of risks in order to satisfy business objectives, accountability requirements and stakeholder expectations.

Implementation of a records policy and objectives soundly based on the organization’s requirements will ensure that authoritative and reliable information about, and evidence of, business activities is created, managed and made accessible to those who need it for as long as required. Successful implementation of good records policy and objectives results in records and records systems adequate for all of an organization’s purposes.

BS ISO 30300 is applicable to all organizations, regardless of size, type or location allowing you to benefit immediately by saving time and costs by applying a best practice approach.
