What is this standard about?

BS 4800F:2011 comes in the form of a colour fan designed for visual matching. This fan contains large and accurate samples of reproduced paint colours, as specified  in BS 4800:2011 (except black and white).

Who is this standard for?

  • Decorators
  • Interior designers
  • Painters
  • Suppliers of paint
  • Professionals working in the colour industry
  • Building contractors
  • Paint manufacturers
  • Facilities managers
  • Office managers

Why should you use this standard?

The standard BS 4800 specifies 122 colours of paint for building and construction works and is an essential reference for anyone who needs a particular paint colour to use in the refurbishment of buildings. It also includes 22 additional colours that are mostly brighter to reflect the latest trends for putting finishes on public buildings. These paint colours are widely recognized throughout the UK and are often used to meet safety, legal or contractual requirements.

BS 4800F is a colour fan that reproduces these colours on a separate leaf, contained within a U-shaped protective cover for easy reference and storage. The outside dimensions are approximately 160 mm x 60 mm x 35 mm.

NOTE: Black and white are not included because the purity of colour achievable in different finishes is influenced very strongly by the type of pigmentation used and particularly by the nature of the medium.
