PP 7722:2006 includes material relevant for higher education engineering students on current standards, regulations, and guidance for producing a comprehensive risk assessment for a machine. It has been structured to be delivered as a course.
For students: book
The book introduces engineering students to the Safety of Machinery series of standards and regulations, and helps them to understand the hazards associated with designing and using machines.
If the course is delivered in its entirety, students will have a thorough understanding of all the hazards associated with machinery, and the principles of machinery risk assessment. They will gain practical experience of designing machine guards, selecting interlocking devices, designing access steps and ladders and of producing the documentation necessary to comply with the EC Machinery Directive.
This course aims to provide students with:
- a working knowledge of the Machinery Directive 98/37/EC enacted in the UK as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 1992
- an understanding of the process of machinery risk assessment
- familiarity with the key standards in the Safety of Machinery series
- a thorough understanding of the range of hazards posed by machines
- the ability to design a set of guards for a machine
- the ability to design a set of access steps for a machine
- the ability to complete a comprehensive risk assessment for a machine
- the ability to compile a technical file for a machine
- the ability to design safe machinery.
