BS 3882:1994 specifies requirements for topsoils. It establishes three grades of material and gives recommendations for the use and handling of topsoil. It is not intended (or appropriate) for the grading, classification or standardization of in situ topsoil or subsoil. Methods of sampling, determination and calculation of grades of top soil, are given in the annexes of this standard.

BS 3882:1994 supersedes BS 3882 : 1965, which is withdrawn.
