Code of practice for distribution of electricity on construction and building sites

Executive summary

Recommendations for the distribution of electricity on construction and building sites.

Abstract

This British Standard deals with the distribution of electricity for construction and building sites. It aims to provide guidance to builders, contractors, engineers and others concerned with the provision of electrical installation equipment suitable for the arduous duty imposed by site conditions.

Current using equipment is not dealt with in this standard.

If high frequency power tools are used, a frequency changer is necessary for their connection to a source of supply. This British Standard is applicable only to the input circuits of such devices.

The following are outside the scope of this standard:

a) high-voltage incoming supplies (i.e. voltages in excess of 1 kV a.c. or 1.5 kV d.c.) and equipment;

b) underground mining operations.

The use of reduced low voltage systems as recommended in this standard have made a major contribution to electrical safety on construction sites.

History and related standards

This British Standard supersedes BS 7375:1991, which is withdrawn.

This revision takes into account BS EN 60439-4, BS 7671, and updates current practice.
