What is BS EN 62625-1 - On board driving data recording system specifications about?

BS EN 62625 is a European standard that discusses electronic railway equipment for railways. BS EN 62625-1 provides for system specification for on board driving data recording system to prevent incidents and accidents.

BS EN 62625-1 is the first part of a multi-part series that outlines the specification of anon board driving data recording system for recording data about the operation of the train. The data refers both to the driver behavior and the on board systems behavior to support systematic safety monitoring as a means of preventing incidents and accidents.

The data is recorded in a way that is suitable for identifying the cause and where possible consequence, such that the data is suitable:

  • For investigative use in case of accidents and incidents
  • To monitor the appropriate actions of drivers

BS EN 62625-1 specifies the requirements for a universal recording system that applies to all types of rail vehicles.

Note 1: Requirements and responsibilities for the management and retention of the data to ensure that its integrity is maintained once it has been extracted from the recording device lie outside the scope of BS EN 62625-1

Note 2: Application of BS EN 62625-1 is subsidiary to the responsibility of the transport authority and the safety regulatory authority and to the specific laws and decrees where the ODDRS (on board driving data recording system) is deployed.

Who is BS EN 62625-1 - On board driving data recording system specifications for?

BS EN 62625-1 on on-board driving data recording system specifications is useful for:

  • On board driving data recording system manufacturers
  • Operators of on board driving data recording system
  • Test centers
  • Regulatory authorities

Why should you use BS EN 62625-1 - On board driving data recording system specifications?

In the railway market over the last decade, the demand for event recorders onboard trains, metros, and trams, has continuously increased. The operators are asking for more and more recorders beyond the simple recording of speed, distance, and elapsed time. Consequently, many national safety authorities in many countries around the world require the installation of a board event recording system.

BS EN 62625-1 guideline assists you with functional requirements on record train data, ensure on board protection of recorded data, ensure retrieval of recorded data, enable recorded data analysis, and optional functions for on board driving data recording system.

BS EN 62625-1 also provides on board driving data recording system and optional modes on system requirements for on board driving data recording system.

With compliance and obedience to BS EN 62625-1,  you can collect on board driving data recording with the system properly and ensure retrieval of recorded data.
