What is this standard about?

Copper and copper alloy tubes are ideal for many industrial and marine pressure piping systems. This standard provides an updated specification of the composition, property requirements and dimension and form tolerances of such tubes.

Who is this standard for? 

This standard is for companies who manufacture or stock copper alloy tubes. It will also be useful in a range of areas where copper and copper alloy tube are commonly used in industrial and marine pressure piping systems such as:

  • Copper tube/pipe extruders and stockers
  • Plumbers and fitters
  • Users in foundries and foundry supply companies
  • Casting producers, designers and buyers
  • Design engineers
  • Product research and developers 

Why should you use this standard? 

It specifies the composition, property requirements and tolerances on dimensions and form for seamless round drawn copper and copper alloy tubes for general purposes. These are supplied in the size range from 3mm up to and including 450mm outside diameter and from 0.3mm up to and including 20mm wall thickness.

The sampling procedures and the methods of test for verification of conformity to the requirements of this standard are also specified.

What’s changed since the last update?

  • The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) has proposed that compliance with this standard may involve the use of a patent concerning the alloy CuSi3Zn2P (CW124C) and CuZn21Si3P (CW724R)
  • The new material CuFe0, 1Sn0,1P (CW125C) is added
  • Elongation values have been modified for Cu-DHP (CW024A) in material condition R250 including new Table 16
  • Iron and tin content have been modified for CuZn37Pb1 (CW605N) from 0,2 % to 0,3 % in Table 7
  • The material number CW121C has been replaced by CW124C for CuSi3Zn2P. BS EN 755-2: 2015 Aluminium and aluminium alloys - Extruded rod/bar, tube and profiles: Part 2 mechanical properties is crucial to the EN 7
