Why should you use this standard?
This first part of the international standard outlines the latest techniques of radiography, to enable satisfactory and repeatable results to be economically obtained. The techniques are based on generally recognized practice and fundamental theory of the subject, inspection of fusion welded joints with industrial radiographic films.
It applies to the joints of plates and pipes. Besides its conventional meaning, “pipe” as used in this standard covers other cylindrical bodies such as tubes, penstocks, boiler drums, and pressure vessels.
Note: BS EN ISO 17636 does not specify acceptance levels for any of the indications found on the radiographs.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 17636 has been fully revised by experts to bring it up to date with technological developments and industry best practice. It has been divided into two parts - BS EN ISO 17636-1 and BS EN ISO 17636-2 on X- and gamma-ray techniques with digital detectors. These now replace BS EN ISO 17636:2003.
The main changes to Part 1 are:
- The normative references have been updated and the text editorially revised
- Any X-ray devices up to 1 000 kV have been included
