Why should you use this standard?
BS 8534:2011 sets out to provide organizations with a generic and standard set of processes, procedures and methods for establishing a procurement system that is fair, equitable, transparent, competitive and cost effective. It helps both public and private sector client organizations in the development of these procurement systems and in forming an effective strategy.
This creation of a framework for the development of procurement systems that facilitate fair competition, reduce the possibilities of abuse, and encourage best value, is intended to then apply down the supply chain. The guidance given includes generic methods and procedures for procurement, including a detailed consideration of the alternatives available, including negotiation, competitive selection, competitive negotiation and electronic auction.
