UK National Annex for Eurocode. Basis of structural design

Status : Confirmed, Current   Published : December 2004

What is BS EN 1990:2002+A1:2005?

BS EN 1990 sets out the principles and requirements for safety, serviceability and durability of structures in construction engineering works. This includes the basis for their design and verification. The standard also gives guidelines for all the related aspects of structural reliability and safety. These guidelines are based on the limit state concept used in conjunction with a partial factor method. BS EN 1990 applies to the structural appraisal of existing constructions, as well as the development and design of repairs and alterations.

How does it work?

BS EN 1990 first looks at various requirements – including basic requirements, reliability management and durability – before setting out the principles of limit states designs. It also covers basic variables, the structural analysis and design assisted by testing, as well as the verification by the partial factor method.

Who should buy it?
