About BS 11000:

BS 11000 is due for publication in October 2010 and will replace PAS 11000 which has recently been successfully piloted by five large organisations. PAS 11000 has been a highly popular publication, commissioned by PSL to establish the world’s first best practice formal benchmark for partnering and collaborative working. The new British Standard provides a strategic framework to improve relationships, apply good practice and manage valuable business relationships within the supply chain.

The standard is designed to help organizations establish frameworks for supporting business-to-business partnering within the private and public sectors and across public private partnerships. Currently the primary audience lies within the aerospace and defence industries but, since the scope of BS 11000 is much wider than the PAS, this is likely to expand upon publication. The standard will provide particular benefit for large value and long-term partnerships, for example, government contracts to build hospitals or schools.

Government departments, particularly the Ministry of Defence, will be looking to see which of their suppliers use or are planning to use the PAS; therefore the publication of this standard is an important one for organizations that are looking to partner with government as part of their strategic plan.
