How do I register?

How do I buy a standard?

You can order PDF’s and hard copy documents at the BSI Shop using a credit or debit card or if you're a member and have signed up to pay by invoice, you can add the order to your credit account.  

Orders for hardcopy and withdrawn standards can also be placed through our Customer Relations team. Just complete our online form advising of the standards you wish to order or call us on +44 (0) 345 086 9001.

Please note, if you are ordering as a non-member, we are unable to process any orders without advance payment.

If you’re a member and haven’t yet signed up to pay by invoice at the BSI Shop, please complete our online credit activation form. We will advise you when your request has been processed: This usually takes up to 48 hours.


What payment methods are available?

Credit or Debit Card: If you are purchasing at the shop, you can pay for your order using a credit or debit card when you check out. You can also pay by card when you order through our Customer Relations team.

By BACS transfer: Non-members can pay for hardcopy standards orders by BACS transfer, however, payment needs to be received in advance of the order being despatched. If you would like to be sent a quotation to pay by BACS transfer, please advise us of the standards you wish to order via our online form or call the Customer Relations team on +44 (0) 345 086 9001.


Members can order and pay within 30 days on account whether ordering on the BSI Shop or through Customer Relations.

If you’re a member and haven’t yet signed up to pay by invoice at the BSI Shop, please complete the Online Credit Activation Form

We will advise you when your request has been processed; this usually takes up to 48 hours.

I am unsure of which standard I need. Can you help?

You can preview all our standards on the BSI Shop which should give you a better understanding of what the standard covers. Any referenced standards are available in the product information tab.

The Standards Development Portal can also be used if you would like to keep track of standards and their status.

If you're a BSI member, the Knowledge Centre can help you with queries relating to specific keywords or sections within a standard. You can also use the member facilities at BSI Headquarters in Chiswick to view standards before you purchase. Please contact the Knowledge Centre to book an appointment for this.

Where is my order?

If you have purchased on the shop, please check whether you purchased a PDF or a hardcopy version of the standard. You can do this by logging in and going to My BSI at the top right-hand side of the page. From here, click on order history where you will find details of everything that you have purchased in the past. 

If you have purchased a PDF, this should be downloaded from the link in your order history and saved to your desktop. The link is valid for 8 days from the date of purchase.

Hardcopy standards are currently delivered within 10-15 working days if you are based in the UK or up to 50 days outside of the UK although this can’t be guaranteed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. If you purchased a hardcopy standard, please check the shipping address on your order history to ensure that it has gone to the correct place. If you need to follow up on an order that hasn’t been received, please let us know the details via our online form.


I have ordered the wrong document; can I return it? 

BSI operates a no-returns policy. If you have ordered a hardcopy document and your order hasn't yet been despatched, we may be able to change it. Orders are usually despatched after 2pm on the same days as they have been ordered. Please call our Customer Relations team to discuss on +44 345 086 9001.


Can I share my standard with someone else?

All digital standards are purchased as a single user licence and should not be shared. PDF versions of the standard are automatically watermarked at the time of purchase to the user who is registered and purchasing the document. Once downloaded, you can print off one hard copy for your own use.

Hardcopy versions of the standard can be used within a document library as one point of reference. Photocopying and reproduction of the standard are prohibited.

If you require access to standards for several users, there are a variety of options available to you:

If you require access to a small number of standards for multiple users, a multi-user licence may be the best option for you. This is available as a one-off purchase, or as a subscription that includes updates when your document is superseded. How do I become a BSI Member?

The quickest and easiest method is to  join online as you can purchase standards at the same time and receive your 50% membership discount immediately.

Formal quotations can be requested online or by calling our Customer Relations team on +44 (0) 345 086 9001. Payment can then be made by credit card over the phone or by BACS transfer.

Please note BSI Membership applies to your whole organization and should not be applied to a department, division or region. VAT is not inclusive in the prices.


How do I pay for my membership renewal?

You can pay for your renewal by BACS transfer or credit card. BACS payments can take up to 5 working days to process.

You will need your membership and invoice number to do this.


How is BSI responding to the COVID-19 outbreak?

BSI, in it’s role as the National Standards Body is working with government and business to assess what information is needed to help mitigate the potential risks caused by the global health emergency.
