The Albanian government has agreed to grant approval for Eurocodes, it has been announced.

According to a government press release, the decision has been taken in order to enhance the structural design of construction projects, in addition to the geotechnical design and safety of developments, Balkans.com Business News reports.

The nation's administration intends to bring construction and civil engineering activities in the country in line with the rest of Europe by adopting the standards.

Eurocodes will now be adapted for Albania and integrated with existing standards to guide the design of steel, concrete and timber buildings.

The standards take the form of ten reference design codes that are transposed by nations adopting them and are intended to create more uniform safety levels within Europe.

Covering geotechnical aspects, structural fire design and issues such as temporary structures, execution and earthquakes, they are expected to assist in the development of a construction and engineering internal market within the region.
