What is PAS 79:2007?

PAS 79:2007 shares a new nine-step structured approach with corresponding documentation to help organizations conduct and record their findings of fire risk assessments in buildings. This also includes parts of buildings to which the Workplace Fire Precautions legislation applies. This specification is not prescriptive, but gives best practice advice on assessing fire risks in any building – including those open to the public. These nine steps include getting the right information, identifying hazards, considering the best control measures and reviewing fire protection measures.

How does it work?

The nine steps in PAS 79 were developed to increase fire safety in buildings. It consists of a practical methodology to help organizations and their advisors meet their legislative responsibilities and undertake fire risk assessments. By following these steps, organizations will have a better understanding of fire risks as a whole, and set up a common basis for technical documents that relate to fire risk assessments.

Who should buy it?

  • Occupational health and safety officers
  • Persons conducting fire risk assessments
  • Facility managers
  • Landlords
