BS EN 1563:1997
Founding. Spheroidal graphite cast iron

What is it?

BS EN 1563:1997 is the European standard for spheroidal graphite cast iron. It outlines legal and regulatory requirements as well as industry grades for materials – providing ways to classify the quality and hardness of spheroidal cast irons. BS EN 1563:1997 specifications are based on the mechanical properties of machine tested materials. The standard does not include requirements for technical delivery of products or the spheroidal graphite cast iron classification for pipes, fittings and accessories.

How does it work?

Compliance with BS EN 1563:1997 enables you to meet European legal and regulatory requirements for industries working with spheroidal graphite cast iron. It outlines ways to classify and grade the materials you use ensuring a consistent quality of output. BS EN 1563:1997 applies to spheroidal cast irons prepared from separate cast samples, cast-on samples and those cut from casting. This European standard will ensure that you meet and exceed supplier and customer expectations.

Who should use it?

  • Those working with spheroidal graphite cast iron
  • Those manufacturing spheroidal graphite case iron.

What’s new?

The European standard BS EN 1563:1997 replaced the British Standard BS 2789 in 1997 as the modern industry standard for spheroidal graphite cast iron.
