Since its publication over 25 years ago, there have been many technical and social developments that have required the revision of the BS 5400, the standard for bridges. All parts are being reviewed; revised or amended editions of other parts are expected next year. 

The revisions introduce technical changes to take account of present construction requirements, following a full review of the standards.

BS 5400-2:2006 replaces BS 5400-2:1978, which will be withdrawn on publication.
