Abstract
This British Standard provides recommendations for the maintenance of electrical switchgear and controlgear having rated voltages up to and including 1 kV.
Special maintenance requirements relating to explosion-protected switchgear and controlgear are excluded from this code of practice. Nevertheless this code of practice provides useful information relating to general maintenance aspects of such apparatus.
Recommended procedures for maintenance of the principal components of equipment are included and guidance is also given concerning replaceable parts but in each instance the item manufacturer’s data should be used in making decisions.
Reference is made to the precautions to be observed in order to secure safety of personnel whilst maintenance is in progress. Guidelines to assist in the formulation of safe isolation procedures for work on systems operating at voltages up to and including 1 kV are also included.
