The electrical sector has witnessed major changes over the last few years. One of the most important is the change to the core colours for fixed wiring in electrical installation in the UK. These new colours are sometimes referred to as ‘harmonized’ colours, as they will bring the UK more closely in line with practices in the rest of Europe.

To comply with BS 7671:2001 Requirements for electrical installations. IEE Wiring Regulations. Sixteenth Edition, any work commencing on site after 31 March 2006 will require that you only use the new cable colours. Full details of the changes can be found in Amendment No.2 to BS 7671:2001.

Code of Practice for In-Service inspection and testing of electrical equipment (3rd edition)

The updated Code of Practice gives guidance to all those responsible for the inspection, testing and maintenance of electric appliances.

It also provides advice on compliance with health and safety legislation. The text specifies the frequency and scope of inspections and testing in different environments.
