Evidential Weight and Legal Admissibility of Information Communicated Electronically. Code of Practice for the Implementation of BS 10008 (New edition)

Peter Howes and Alan Shipman

This code of practice is primarily concerned with the authenticity, integrity and availability of information transferred electronically.

Email, mobile messaging (SMS), instant messaging, web services, web forms, XML and electronic data interchange (EDI) are increasingly being used for business communications. Many existing communications systems are insecure, with the possibility of files being intercepted and amended during the communication process, without the knowledge of the sender or the recipient.

This code seeks to define operational procedures which comply with good practice in the field of electronic document communications.

Contents:

  • Introduction
  • General
  • Information communication policy
  • Duty of care
  • Procedures and processes
  • Enabling technologies
  • Audit trails
  • Unstructured message considerations
