Attend these complimentary events to influence changes in how industry complies with waste permitting.
BSI will be hosting three one-day workshops in London in 2012.
As part of the Government’s goal to review waste policies, The British Standards Institution (BSI) has undertaken a project to ascertain the role standards should play in helping industry demonstrate compliance with the current permitting regime (i.e. Environmental Permitting Regulations).
To inform this aim, BSI has undertaken extensive research into applicable standards, schemes and regulatory initiatives (in conjunction with the project partners) and now we are looking to engage with individuals across 3 specific waste industries to form a comprehensive picture of waste permitting issues and identify how they could be resolved.
Who should attend?
Individuals within the specific industry with responsibility for ensuring that their waste management organization complies with waste permitting requirements. Any individuals with a strong knowledge of waste permitting, the issues faced by industry and ideas as to how to promote general compliance with waste permits.
Outline
Each workshop is aimed at organizations within a specific industry, who deal with waste permitting issues on a frequent basis, and especially waste management operators who are directly affected by the implications of meeting permitting requirements.
It is an opportunity to review the information landscape that surrounds waste permitting, identify any issues connected to compliance with permits applicable to your industry and examine how a solution can be reached through the provision of standardisation and other information products.
It is anticipated that increased standardisation would provide a higher degree of assurance of compliance with waste regulation, lower the burden of regulation on compliant businesses and identify waste operations which may be fit for “lighter touch” regulation with support from standards, certification and accreditation. In addition to enabling the Environment Agency (EA) to focus on poor performance and illegal activity rather than well managed businesses, we are looking to engage with industry to help individual organisations identify and realize cost savings, reputational and other benefits.
