The financial services sector is a complex regulatory environment where staying ahead of the game and providing assurance both internally and to the regulator is vital. Continued regulatory breaches may have damaged the reputation of the industry but a recognized approach to managing compliance may help firms meet their obligations more easily and re-build confidence.
The new British Standard, BS 8453 Compliance Framework for Financial Services was developed to give financial services firms and their stakeholders a recognized framework for managing compliance programmes based on industry best practise.
To introduce the new standard, the British Standards Institution (BSI) will host a free launch event.
Attendees will hear:
- why the standard has come about
- how the standard helps regulated firms comply with regulation
- insights into current and future regulations and how the standard fits
- practical guidance on implementation (large and small firms).
The launch will end with a drinks reception giving attendees the opportunity to network with financial services compliance experts who developed the new standard.
When: Tuesday, 8 March 2011 at the Hatton, London, 14.00-18.00 Where: The Hatton, London

In a rigorous and fast moving regulatory environment, operating a ‘watertight’ compliance programme is increasingly important for providers of financial services. This undeniably requires time, resources and organizational buy-in. Failure to do so can be costly.
BSI has gathered expertise from leading industry bodies (including APCIMS, CISI and the APCC), compliance practitioners (including PwC, Thomson Reuters Governance Risk and Compliance) to create the best practice framework and benchmark for operating an effective compliance program.
Benefits of BS 8453 Compliance framework for financial services firms:
- Meet regulatory obligations more easily
- Lower compliance costs
- Demonstrate that a consistent and auditable process has been followed
